All Green Things

All Green Things offers an Eco friendly selection of green products for green living. We aspire to encourage a more thoughtful purchasing process that focuses on local economies, fair practices, reusable or sustainable materials, and less consumption tied to ever changing trends. We are an on-line Green Lifestyle store (Brick-and-Mortar to launch next year) and educational resource that provides users with a comprehensive source of facts to live a greener lifestyle.

What made you decide to open that type of a store?

It was June of 2006 that I found myself in a darkened theater watching "An Inconvenient Truth". I had no idea how this documentary would impact my life in the way I looked at the world and actions I would set out and take. I realized that the way I was living my life was impacting the environment in a negative way. I also realized that it was time for me to enact change not only in my own life, but maybe, in the lives of others.

I wanted to figure out how to minimize my use and waste of resources. It is undoubtedly a challenge at first, but I was realistic in trying to affect an initial change through an evolution instead of a shock. Consistent and deliberate action, however small, ultimately adds up to immense differences that reduce the negative effects on our environment. I suddenly felt empowered and wanted to empower others to challenge themselves to do more. AllGreenThings.com became my platform to try and make a difference.

Did you use a different POS system before POS•IM, or was POS•IM used when the store opened?

POS•IM was used when the store opened. I came from a background that included very little retail experience. My only experience came from many years ago working in the restaurant business during college. I am a sound engineer by trade so I basically had to start from scratch. I knew very little about POS systems other than an NCR.

Why did you originally choose to purchase POS•IM?

I originally choose to purchase POS•IM because I needed something smarter than myself to keep track of the daily operations of All Green Things. When I say I had no experience I really mean this. If you think about everything that goes into to starting a company I had to learn from very humble beginnings. So finding a system that would start me off for the launch of my website to the merging of my brick-and-mortar next year was something that was very important. I needed things to be seamless. The last thing I wanted was to piece meal a bunch of different programs that may have been incompatible. I have already ended up in a few fetal positions a couple of times because of the sheer overload. POS•IM, I know, has eliminated more of these potential breakdowns

What is your favorite feature in POS•IM?

For me the best feature is that it combines your e-commerce and brick-and-mortar. The other is its accuracy when it comes to the bookkeeping. I cannot imagine having to piece meal different documents when it comes to gathering the information for my bookkeeper. This information can dump right down to quick books. This inventory management software is just superb and the customer support is amazing. I cannot say enough about every department at Ensign Systems. They are all caring and amazing!!

What benefits has your store received by using POS•IM?

There are many areas one must pay close attention when running a retail based store. One of the top priorities is customer service and merchandise. This is critical to the success of any company. The store needs to constantly have new items for sale or the customer will think that there is never anything new to look at or buy. So ordering in a timely manner needs to be accomplished some how. Inventory levels need to be monitored and kept at the right level at all times. Being out of sought after items will send customers somewhere else. You must be aware of your inventory at all times or this can become a very costly mistake. POS•IM is flexible and keeps track of the details. It handles purchasing and receiving, product profitability, merchandise mix, customer tracking, physical inventory, special orders, can trace all sales of a particular item, has high-speed credit card processing and oh so much more. I always tell me colleagues it does everything but shave my legs. Are you programmers listening?
